Tools Improved

Today I added the possibility of simultaneously displaying both the Voronoi input points and the Voronoi graph in my software. In this way, I will understand the relationship between the Voronoi input and output in 3D space better.

Try it Out Yourself (2D)

I've put together a small program for toying with the interactive evolution. It features 2D patterns, which are generated by a logo turtle. You'll find that even with such a simple approach, there are infinite numbers of patterns which can be generated.

Try it out.

Instructions:
  • You'll have to have Silverlight installed. If you haven't installed it yet, you should be prompted to do so when you click the link above. It's a perfectly safe and cool piece of software and it only takes a few seconds to get it running.

  • To select an image (subject), just click on the "Select" button above it. The next generation will be produced with a strong influence of traits of the selected subject. To increase the variety in the population, select the subject which stands out.

  • There is a slight mutation rate which sould prevent loss of variety in the population. Should that occur, just click the top most button "Start Again".

The Basic Voronoi 3D Dilemma: Chaos and Order

I feel somewhat philosophical today: is design, including architecture, anything but finding the balance between chaos and order?

Sandbox: Wouldn't it be easier if...

...I were only trying to design the facade of a building with Voronoi and genetic algorithms?
