Voronoi-like shapes in nature
4. The first time I noticed the suspiciously similar pattern in nature was when I stumbled upon an underwater photo of a sea turtle. It looked like it had the Voronoi signature all over.
1. But the hands-down winners are the Radiolarians, tiny sea creatures with siliceous exoskeletons. I was totally blown away when I noticed that one of my accidental Voronoi developments bore a striking resemblance to one of them.
3. Last year, a lot of excitement spread across the planet Earth as NASA, while drilling deep in the Antarctic ice, discovered a little shrimp. But what excited me was the all too familiar pattern of the icy shaft.
2. Ice and snow often resemble the Voronoi patterns.
